Jesus, greater than all...

Welcome back beloved family!

We have been blessed with a beautiful day today, simply because the whole earth is filled with the glory of the Lord.  It is amazing gift that we would not only get to know Him, but that He would know us!  Blessed be the Son of God, Jesus Christ our Lord!

We are thankful we get to share the next part of the sermon series in the book of Hebrews, a powerful epistle indeed!  Our verses for the night were out of Hebrews 1:4-14.  We pray you take time today to go over the wonderful things in the scriptures, check all we say and others say to them, like the noble Bereans in Paul's day.  Please share today's sermon as well, the importance of sharing the greatest news of all time, that we can be saved from our sins and the wrath of God rightly due to our sinful ways, when we place our faith in Jesus Christ and turning away from sin in repentance, live to serve the King of all kings.  As the summary from the sermon is posted below we pray that today you would meditate on the Word of God, let it take its rightful place within you that much fruit be come forth for the kingdom, amen?  It is always such a great joy to see everyone in person, to share worship, fellowship and a meal with and the invitation is always open to come up and share your testimony of how Christ has saved you.  Let us all glorify the name of Jesus in His mighty deeds beloved! :)

The Supremacy of the Son of God

Hebrews 1:4-14 is a passage that reveals the supremacy of the Son of God over the angels and the creation. The author of Hebrews quotes seven Old Testament passages to show that the Son has a more excellent name, a more exalted position, and a more enduring nature than the angels.

A More Excellent Name

The first two quotations are from Psalm 2:7 and 2 Samuel 7:14, which declare that God has said to the Son, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”. These verses show that the Son has a unique relationship with the Father that no angel can claim. The Son is the only begotten of the Father, the heir of all things, and the firstborn over all creation. The name “Son” implies dignity, authority, and intimacy with God.

A More Exalted Position

The next three quotations are from Deuteronomy 32:43, Psalm 104:4, and Psalm 45:6-7, which affirm that God has said to the Son, “Let all God’s angels worship him”1, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy”. These verses show that the Son is worthy of worship, reigns as God over an eternal kingdom, and is anointed by God with joy. The Son is superior to the angels in power, glory, and honor.

A More Enduring Nature

The last two quotations are from Psalm 102:25-27 and Psalm 110:1, which state that God has said to the Son, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end”, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”. These verses show that the Son is the creator and sustainer of all things, and that he is seated at the right hand of God as the victorious ruler over his enemies. The Son is unchanging and everlasting in his nature and his work.

Conclusion

Hebrews 1:4-14 demonstrates that the Son of God is far superior to the angels and the creation in every way. He has a more excellent name, a more exalted position, and a more enduring nature than any other being. He is worthy of our faith, our love, and our obedience. He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being (Hebrews 1:3). He is our Lord and our Savior.

As you can see brothers and sisters, this epistle is so wonderful and the magnification upon who Jesus is, should be taken and cherished in our hearts and minds.  Let us continue to serve, love and obey Him together, being ready for the day He returns or calls us home first.  We pray you come Saturday and share with us in worship, fellowship and a meal afterward, all starting at 7pm.

We love and care for each of you and until we meet again let's go serve our King!
