Welcome brothers and sisters!
It is a wonderful day to give thanks to the Lord, for He has done it all! He willingly lay down His own life, paying the very sin debt we owed and atoning for our sins...once for all! Where would any of us be today if God had not shown us so much mercy? There is no greater gift than being with God for all eternity, and He has made exactly that possible through a relationship with Jesus Christ, let us not waste another day without knowing Him. Let us not waste another day without sharing the Gospel, whether with an unbelieving neighbor or edifying your own family and church with the Word of God...it is never a bad time to share Jesus Christ our living hope.
Our worship and fellowship from Saturday night was wonderful, it was great to see so many people return that we may study together the culminating work of Christ upon the Cross, as the author of Hebrews explains to us in Hebrews 10:1-18. Pastor Scott faithfully took us through each verse, exalting the work of Christ and rendering to us what it looks like to follow and obey Him. We encourage you to watch and share today, you can always visit our YouTube channel here, view past sermons and blogs here as well as contact us here for anything we can help you with in your Christian walk. Below is a brief synopsis from our worship on Saturday night, we encourage you to also stay in the Word daily. We also encourage you to use the many resources available to all of us, including www.biblegateway.com, always the Bible and much more. As always beloved, be sure to check everything through the lens of scripture, for through them we can rightly divide what is true from what is false.
The book of Hebrews shows how Christ is better than the old covenant system of sacrifices. In Hebrews 10:1-18, the author compares the repeated sacrifices of the law with the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ. He says that the sacrifices of the law could never make anyone perfect or take away sins completely. They only reminded people of their sins every year. He quotes Psalm 40:6-8 to show that God wanted obedience, not animal sacrifices. He applies this psalm to Christ, who obeyed God by offering Himself as a sacrifice for sins.
The author then explains what Christ’s sacrifice means for us. He says that by God’s will, we have been made holy through Christ’s sacrifice (Hebrews 10:10). He contrasts the priests who keep offering the same sacrifices that can never take away sins, with Christ who sat down at God’s right hand after offering one sacrifice for sins forever (Hebrews 10:11-12). He says that by one sacrifice, Christ has made us perfect forever (Hebrews 10:14). He quotes Jeremiah 31:33-34 to show that God has made a new covenant with us, in which He puts his laws in our hearts and minds, and remembers our sins no more (Hebrews 10:15-17). He concludes by saying that where there is forgiveness of sins, there is no need for any more sacrifices (Hebrews 10:18).
The message of this passage is clear and powerful. Christ has done what the law could not do. He has given us total forgiveness and perfect access to God through His sacrifice which He did willingly. He has fulfilled God’s will and established a new and better way of having a relationship with Him.
We very much hope to see you next week and until we meet again, let's go serve our King!
