God is our Refuge

He is our strength...our fortress!

Welcome back brothers and sisters!!

What a beautiful day it is to share the Gospel, in a world that is dying...we have been given the most precious message ever...life!  Let's take a moment to give God thanks for giving to us such a beautiful message, one we are surely not worthy of...yet He works out within us to accomplish His will.  Praise the Lord for saving lost souls, so much in dire need of saving!

Well winter has truly arrived here in Wasilla, the snow has come and blanketed everything with this sheen white layer over everything.  However as pure as this looks, it compares not to how clean the Lord Jesus makes our very soul before the Father.  He cleanses us whiter than snow!  Every sin that would stain us red with death, is washed away when you put your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We must know Him, not just about Him.  So run...run to the very refuge of Jesus Christ our Lord, that our lives are hidden away in Christ to be revealed in the last day.  Last Saturday night was wonderful, as we all came back from sharing thanksgiving weekend with our loved ones, we were greeted with testimonies and a powerful sermon about the very refuge we have in Christ.  Pastor Scott took us through Psalm 46 for the evening to show us the very fortress we have in Christ.  He takes through the meaning of each verse as the Psalmist, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, shows us the character of God, who He is and what He does...and that in all, He is Sovereign!  From our point of view it would certainly look as though we make some sort of decision of being saved...but remember, that God has laid out His very plan from the beginning.  Nobody can come to the Son unless drawn by the Father, and all that the Father gives the Son...none will be lost!  What a beautiful and very reassuring hope we have in the one who is our strength and refuge!

Let us look at the scripture for a moment and see how God lays things out, how even as His enemies rage against Him, He breaks the very weapons of warfare.  Through all this He tells us to "Be still, and know He is God"...we can stop striving, stop fighting...relax, in the sense that we are safe in Him.  He is our very present strength in trouble.

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present[
b] help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.

The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
10

“Be still, and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!”
11

The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

God always puts it best, so let's stop fighting so hard at things we cannot control, and simply put our trust and faith in Jesus Christ...our very fortress, impenetrable and watch as He makes all His enemies a footstool for His feet.  Let's go about the business of the great commission and preach the Gospel and encourage others to run...run to Christ.

Don't forget to visit us online, make sure to watch our video for the sermon and share it with others!  We hope to see you in person each Saturday at 7pm for worship, fellowship and a meal.  Bring your testimony with you, as we all delight to hear how Christ has saved you!

Until we meet again, let's go serve our King!
