Our Strength, Our Hope

Lifelong trust, unwavering, found in God

Welcome brothers and sisters!

Today we have been blessed with Jesus our Lord, here today we breathe yet still.  So today we give praise to Christ the Lord, who delivered us from death upon Calvary's hill!

Family, as we continue growing within our church, within our homes, within our very soul we know that we can trust God above everything from beginning to end.  As we review our sermon from Saturday night, we invite you to watch and share Pastor Scott's message on Psalm 71.  We also want to remind everyone that whether you are a new believer, or a long time child of God, always check everything through the lens of the scriptures.  Our very foundation is upon the word of God, for there is no other to stand on without crumbling down.

Psalm 71 is a heartfelt prayer attributed to an older believer, traditionally thought to be David but we can't say for certain. This psalm beautifully captures the unwavering faith and trust in God’s righteousness and deliverance throughout one’s life.

Seeking Refuge in God: The psalmist begins with a plea for God’s protection, expressing a deep reliance on Him: “In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.” This opening sets the tone for a psalm filled with trust and dependence on God’s steadfast love.

God’s Faithfulness from Youth to Old Age: Reflecting on a lifetime of experiences, the psalmist acknowledges God’s presence and support from youth through old age. “For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.” This verse highlights the enduring nature of God’s faithfulness.

Praising God Amidst Adversity: Despite facing adversaries and challenges, the psalmist remains committed to praising God. “My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.” This unwavering praise serves as a testament to the psalmist’s deep-rooted faith.

A Prayer for Continued Strength: As the psalmist ages, there is a heartfelt plea for God’s continued strength and protection: “Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” This request underscores the psalmist’s trust in God’s enduring care.

Proclaiming God’s Righteousness: The psalmist vows to proclaim God’s righteousness and mighty deeds to the next generation: “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation.” This commitment to sharing God’s works reflects a life dedicated to His service.

Reflection:

Psalm 71 reminds us of the importance of trusting in God’s deliverance throughout our lives. It encourages us to seek refuge in Him, praise Him amidst adversity, and proclaim His righteousness to future generations. May we, like the psalmist, find our strength and hope in God’s unwavering faithfulness.

Every day we have on this earth, we should seek to be conformed to the image of Jesus.  That fortunately for us is the great work of the Lord, however we still have the responsibility to heed His convictions when impressed upon us.  As we all go out today in our daily lives, may the word of God be on our heart, His praise on our lips and His work within our soul.  We hope to see you each Saturday for worship, fellowship and a meal afterward and until we meet again...lets go serve our King!
